The UNIQA Group is one of the largest insurance companies in Central and Eastern Europe.

This global company employs 20,000 employees, operates in 16 countries, and provides Property & Casualty, Life, and Health insurance to over 10 million customers, in addition to healthcare through its PremiQaMed hospital chain.

The Challenge

How might we use existing insurance data to inform the creation of new health and wellness ventures, at scale?

Change Logic’s Role

  • Strategy – helped CEO and Senior Team decide ambition and market selection for innovation unit (SanusX- now Mavie ).
  • Operating Model – developed structure, budget, governance, talent strategy, and repeatable, scalable innovation method.
  • Launch – launched SanusX to lead UNIQA’s emerging healthcare ventures in targeted markets; acted as innovation team for first 6 months then coached multiple squads through 30+ experiments in 7 new business areas.
  • Scaling Paths – developed and executed Scaling Paths to assemble the assets needed to grow new ventures organically, via acquisition (2x), and via partnership or joint venture (2x)

Impact

  • Launched in-market experiments for opportunities in mental health, elderly care, primary care.
  • Helped SanusX launch a COVID-19 testing service inside one month, reduced onsite testing time by 97% vs. others.
  • Certified 18 SanusX team members in Change Logic’s Ideate-Incubate-Scale methodology.
  • Provided SanusX with a rich pipeline of net-new opportunities.
  • New ventures generating revenue within 1 year.
